In a world that often feels heavy with injustice, hatred, and division, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or tempted to respond to darkness with more darkness. But Paul’s powerful instruction in this verse reminds us of our calling: not to fight fire with fire, but to bring light into the fire.
Being good in the face of evil is not weakness—it’s a radical act of faith. It means trusting that God’s way is better, even when vengeance or retaliation feels more satisfying in the moment. To overcome evil with good is to reflect the very heart of Jesus, who responded to cruelty with forgiveness, to hatred with love, and to betrayal with grace.
Today, you may encounter bitterness, gossip, disrespect, or injustice. But you have a choice: to react from your flesh or respond through the Spirit. Choose to overcome. Choose good. That’s how we defeat the darkness—not by mirroring it, but by shining through it.
🙏 Personal Prayer
Father, help me to be a light in the darkness. When evil comes near, give me the strength to respond with kindness, grace, and love. I confess it’s not always easy, but I trust You to empower me. Help me to be more like Jesus—to overcome evil with good, every time. In His name I pray, Amen.
